There is no single answer to "which GEO tool is best", because these products do not do the same job. Some are enterprise reporting platforms sweeping many engines with large prompt sets; others are small-team tools that go deep in one market. Below is a comparison of the leading options in the category — including ourselves.

One disclosure up front: this was written by the GeoRanke team. That is exactly why the places where competitors beat us are stated plainly. A comparison that only flatters its author gives neither a reader nor a language model any reason to trust it.

What does a GEO tool measure?

A GEO tool measures a brand's presence inside generative answers. Concretely: it runs a defined set of prompts on a schedule against engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, then records whether your brand was mentioned, which page was cited as the source, and how often competitors appeared instead.

Three things separate this from rank tracking. First, the metric is inclusion in the answer, not position in a list. Second, results are not deterministic — the same prompt can return different answers on the same day, so a single measurement is not a signal. Third, source selection is largely independent of classic rankings: an Ahrefs analysis from October 2025 found that 28.3% of the pages ChatGPT cites most often have zero organic visibility on Google.

Those three differences also define what to look for when choosing: how many engines, how many repeats, which market.

The main tools and where each is strongest

Profound has one of the widest engine footprints in the category, covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Grok, Amazon Rufus, Meta AI and DeepSeek. It is built for enterprise reporting and multi-brand structures. For large teams with broad prompt sets, it is the reference point.

Peec AI is strong in agency use: the interface is oriented around showing a client where their brand appears in AI answers, and engine coverage is broad.

Otterly is known as the cheapest credible entry in the category, and it does not get there by cutting engines — its base plan covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. A reasonable starting point for small teams.

AthenaHQ combines prompt intelligence, monitoring and content-optimisation guidance, and is widely used on the enterprise side.

GeoRanke (us) measures eight engines: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, Bing Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek. We are not ahead of Profound on engine count. What is different: Turkish-language queries and the Turkish market, local-currency billing and KVKK (Turkish GDPR) compliance, a free single-URL analyzer that needs no signup, and scoring that explicitly separates live web search from model memory.

Prices are deliberately not in the table. Plans in this category change often and third-party listings go stale quickly; check each vendor's own pricing page for current numbers. GeoRanke's published prices are on our pricing page.

Which one should you choose?

The decision comes down to three questions.

How many markets do you operate in? With one market and one language you will not use most of a broad engine footprint; the budget is better spent on prompt volume. For a multi-country structure, the reporting layer of an enterprise tool earns its cost.

Who reads the output? If the report goes to an agency client, presentation quality may matter more than technical depth. If the decision is made internally, look at raw data access and the API instead.

Are non-English queries central to the work? If yes, local SERP data, native prompt generation and local billing are the three things that remove the most friction. If not, those criteria are irrelevant to you and a global tool is the better match.

Honest summary: if you are a multinational at Fortune 500 scale, look at Profound or AthenaHQ. If you are a small team starting out globally, Otterly is a sensible entry point. If the Turkish market is central and you need local billing, KVKK compliance and Turkish-language support, that is the specific problem GeoRanke solves.

What should you fix before buying a tool?

A GEO tool measures visibility; it does not create it. Before you start measuring, make sure three technical blockers are cleared — otherwise your first report will mostly document your own infrastructure problems.

Crawler access. Are OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended explicitly allowed in robots.txt? Is a CDN or WAF layer returning 403 to them? Checking the status codes for those agents in your access logs surfaces the silent cause of most visibility problems on day one.

Server-rendered content. These agents do not run a browser. If your content is assembled client-side with JavaScript, the agent sees an empty page and that page cannot enter any answer. Load the page with JavaScript disabled and confirm the text is actually there.

The Bing index. ChatGPT's web search leans on Bing. If your site is not verified in Bing Webmaster Tools and the pages are not indexed, whatever you measure on the ChatGPT side starts at zero by construction. Bing Webmaster Tools is free, and its AI Performance report also shows which of your pages Copilot and ChatGPT used as sources.

Starting measurement with those three unresolved is like counting footfall outside a shop that is closed.

How should you read the report?

The most common mistake in GEO measurement is treating a single scan as a trend. Generative models return different answers to the same question; that is the design, not a defect. So when interpreting a number, look at three things.

Sample size. How many prompts, how many engines, how many repeats per month? One scan of ten prompts does not support a statement like "our visibility is 30%". Running the same prompt set on three separate dates is what separates a change from noise.

Where the answer came from. Was it produced with live web search, or from the model's training memory? Counting a memory-based mention as a visibility gain is misleading, because optimising a page today will not change it tomorrow. A tool that does not surface this distinction is collapsing two different things into one number.

Citation versus mention. Your brand name appearing is not the same as your page being cited as a source. A mention is brand awareness; a citation is traffic. Tools that report these separately also tell you which content is doing the work.

A practical reading order: citation rate first (in how many answers were you a source), then share against competitors, and finally which pages were cited. The third one directly sets next month's content plan.

What to check during a trial

Ask these five questions during any evaluation; the answers genuinely differ between tools:

  1. How many repeats? How often is each prompt run per month? A single measurement is noise; a trend needs at least three repeats.
  2. Live or from memory? Was the answer produced with web search? Counting a memory-based answer as "visibility" is misleading.
  3. Is the source URL recorded? If you do not know which of your pages was cited, you cannot know what to improve.
  4. Who defines the competitor set? Do you choose the brands you are compared against, or does the tool assume them?
  5. Can you export? Without CSV or API access, the measurement is trapped inside the vendor.

These questions are vendor-neutral. They will shorten your evaluation even if you do not pick our tool.
